In delivering his presentation, Prof. Eholie gave a brief background about Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA). He explained that since 1990 SAA has been the custodian of ICASA. He went further to inform those present about what is new for ICASA 2017 Cote d’Ivoire. According to him, the track sub titles of the scientific programme has been increase from 149 during ICASA 2015 to 214 for ICASA 2017 abstract submission. In addition, there is more emphasis on Non Communicable Diseases and emerging viral infections such as Hepatitis, TB, Ebola Lassa fever etc. This he said is to widen the scientific scope of the conference.
He continued that for the leadership programme, there is more civil society engagement in the development of the conference programme. Again, there is a strong leadership from the UN System and, an icon in the person of the First Lady of Côte d’Ivoire, Her Excellency Dominique Ouattara, is driving the Leadership programme to end AIDS by 2030.
With regards to the community programme, he pointed out there will be 15 dialogue spaces & 50 booths, Free HIV & Hepatitis testing at the Community Village. Also, ICASA 2017 will introduce the Corridor Project; an activity to engage youth commitment to ending AIDS by 2030 along the West African corridor (Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana & Cote d’Ivoire)
Prof. Serge Eholie also highlighted ICASA 2017 Cote d’Ivoire programme at a glance. He stated that, ICASA 2017 is well designed and at 65% of implementation, the Preliminary programme has been validated, 15 Plenaries sessions have been validated, 49 Concurrent sessions from the Scientific, Leadership & Community Programmes have also been validated. He also provided information on the detailed registration fees and various key dates of ICASA 2017 Cote d’Ivoire.
Finally, Prof Serge use the opportunity to the inform members about the numerous marketing and sponsorship opportunities available at ICASA 2017 Cote d’Ivoire. He mentioned that civil organizations, health institutions, pharmaceutical companies etc. have the opportunity to exhibit and hold satellite session as well as promote the visibility of their compagny before and during ICASA 2017 Cote d’Ivoire. In his concluding remarks, he called on all stakeholders and partners present, to support the ICASA organizers in making this year ICASA a success.
