Summary of the 2nd International Steering Committee Meeting- Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire
The 2nd International Steering Committee Meeting of the International Conference on AIDS and STI’s in Africa (ICASA) took place on the 30th – 31st of March, 2017, at the Palm Club Hotel, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. The meeting was graced by all stakeholders in the Health sector such as the UN system, PEPFAR, USAID, WHO, and representatives from Civil Society Organizations as well as scientific research organizations. The main agenda was to ratify and validate the conference programme of ICASA 2017 Cote d’Ivoire. Participants numbered in the region of 83. The ICASA 2017/SAA President, Dr. Ihab Ahmed on behalf of himself and also on behalf of the ICASA 2017 Co-chair, the Honorable Minister of Health and Public Hygiene of the government of Cote d’Ivoire, Dr. Raymonde Goudou COFFIE, welcomed all stakeholders to the meeting and expressed his optimism that proceedings will go on as planned and the objectives for the meeting would be achieved.
The main agenda for the first day of the meeting was geared towards finalizing the selection of plenary speakers of the Leadership and Community Program. Also the Concurrent Sessions of all three programme committees were selected and validated. There were some key presentations that were delivered as part of the agenda for the first day. Some of which include the ICASA 2017 Progress report, the presentation on the ICASA 2017 Plenary Speakers, the presentation on scholarship criteria as well as the presentation on the Call for partnership.
The Agenda for the second day was quite short. The Key presentations included the presentation on the ICASA 2019 Call for Bid, the presentation on the ICASA 2017 floor plan which concluded with an onsite visit to the Conference Venue, Sofitel Hotel Ivoire. Dr. Ihab Ahmed, the ICASA 2017 President and Mr. Luc Bodea, ICASA Director in the company of the Acting Chair of the ICASA 2017 Scientific Program, Prof. Seni Kouanda thanked all participants for very successful two-day deliberations and looked forward to welcoming all stake holders in August for the Marathon Meeting.

You are welcome to the 3rd SAA strategic plan validation meeting. But before we proceed I would appreciate to acknowledge here present in our midst the past SAA President and ICASA President as well, Dr Mpele , Prof Robert Soudre, and Prof Kadio August, These are SAA few past members of SAA and ICASA pioneers that I will invite you to give one round of applaud.
Indeed if we are today talking about the 3rd Society for AIDS in Africa strategic plan it means that the organization have come to age of Maturity were each of you as African or friend of Africa in line with our mission and vision can feel been members of SAA and make sure that you have a say in the governance of this organization in term of management, accountability, Transparency.
Through our various major activities, ICASA and Scientific symposium this organization since more than 30 years that we are fighting the epidemic of AIDS in Africa, we have been part of the tremendous and considerable progress that has been made towards mitigating the impact of HIV and AIDS in our community in terms of stigmatization, human rights, prevention, treatment and care and the call for universal access. It is then the right time that we redesign and redefine our strategy to help gears the end of aids, TB and to respond adequately to new emerging viral infection across our continent.
