Dr. Owen Mugurungi

Director of AIDS and TB programmes, Ministry of Health and Child Care, Zimbabwe.

He was appointed in 2000 to lead the health sector response to HIV in the country when the HIV epidemic in Zimbabwe was at its worst. Was instrumental in the formation of the National Aids Council and its structures and the National Aids Trust Fund.

Over the years have worked with partners and stakeholders, which has seen the decline in HIV incidence and prevalence in Zimbabwe. We have implemented policies and practices that put Zimbabwe on course to achieve the Unaids 95 95 95 targets by 2025 and end aids by 2030.
